Unwind, get creative, and master the potter's wheel in Sydney

Ever dreamed of turning a simple lump of mud into a stunning, handcrafted ceramic masterpiece? ClayGround’s 5-Week Wheel Throwing Course is your invitation to slow down, get your hands dirty, and unlock the deeply therapeutic art of pottery in a supportive, high-energy environment.

Whether you join us at our sun-lit Brookvale studio on the Northern Beaches or our vibrant Rosebery space in Sydney’s Inner South, you’ll be guided every step of the way by our expert instructors. Designed specifically with beginners in mind, this comprehensive course breaks down the core mechanics of wheel throwing into playful, bite-sized weekly goals.

Over five structured sessions, you will discover how to center clay, pull walls, and shape cylinders into functional mugs, cups, vases, and cozy bowls. You’ll master professional trimming techniques to give your pieces clean bases, add custom handles, and finish with our studio-exclusive decorative glazes. Because our class sizes are kept small, you’ll receive plenty of direct, personalized guidance throughout. You’ll walk away with 5–6 handmade, food-safe, dishwasher-friendly creations ready to take home.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Pottery Course FAQs

Where are your pottery studios located?

ClayGround has two premier, fully equipped ceramic studios located in Sydney, NSW:

  • Brookvale (Northern Beaches): 11 Mitchell Rd, Brookvale, 2100
  • Rosebery (Inner South): 601 Botany Rd, Rosebery, 2018
Make sure to double-check which location your specific class is booked for before checking out!
Do I need any pottery experience or to be "artistic" to join a course?

Absolutely not! Our Sydney pottery courses are designed for all skill levels. We love beginners, dabblers, and people who claim they "can't draw a stick figure". Our expert instructors will guide you step-by-step.

And if your piece collapses? That means you’re doing it right! Clay is fully recyclable, and mistakes are part of the process, we just squish it up and start again.

What should I wear and bring to the studio?

Comfort is king at ClayGround! We highly recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little muddy, such as relaxed pants and a t-shirt. Since you’ll be straddling the potter's wheel, avoid wearing restrictive clothing or anything made of delicate fabrics like white silk. Don't stress too much about the mess, our clay washes off easily and we also provide protective aprons to all our studnents. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for safety in the studio.

How long does it take to get my finished pottery?

Once you've created and glazed your masterpiece in the course, we carefully dry and kiln-fire your pieces in our stoneware kilns (up to 1250 degrees) so they become fully functional, waterproof, and food-safe.

  • Multi-Week Courses: Pieces are usually ready 2 weeks after your final session.
You will receive an automated email and SMS the moment your pieces are ready for collection! Studio collection times are Weekdays (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) and Weekends (10:00 am - 2:00 pm).
Is there parking available at the studios?

Yes! We have dedicated private parking spots located directly in front of both our Brookvale and Rosebery studios reserved specifically for ClayGround students and customers.

If our front spots happen to be full, there is also plenty of convenient street parking available right around both locations:

  • Brookvale Studio: Ample free street parking is available along Mitchell Road and neighboring side streets.
  • Rosebery Studio: Plenty of street parking can be found along Botany Road as well as surrounding side streets.
What happens if I miss a week of my 5-week or 10-week course?

Because all our multi-week courses follow a progressive curriculum, makeup sessions are not available. Please double-check your calendar to ensure you can make all the dates for your course before booking!
